PASS THE COMB
A change the stereo film.

A short film telling the story of a young brother in conflict and his older sisters calming influence using the cultural tradition of braiding hair. Pass the Comb was born out of a need to create art through the medium of film and theatre to tell stories you wouldn’t necessarily see about ‘Urban youth’ as they are so often labelled.  With Pass the Comb we are portraying layers and diversity through alternative lenses.

ORIGINS of the AFRO COMB
6000 years of culture, politics and identity.

Crystal is the founder of United Kinkdom a natural hair blog and a committee member of the Origins of the Afro Comb. A joint exhibition between the Fitzwilliam Museum and MAA, Cambridge showcases the discovery of 6,000 year history of African hair combs. Material culture on display includes hundreds of remarkable combs from pre-dynastic Egypt to modern-day black fist combs. Includes associated images and sculptures showing the wide variety of hair styles found in Africa.

Celebrating the diversity of afro hair through images.

Ais4Afro is snapshot of Afro Hair culture on the streets of England. It aims to shed light on afro hair and the role it plays in many lives. Solomon began the project in early 2013 as a study of all the options that Afro hair can give. Since then it has become… something far more. It looks, not only into peoples hair and style, but into their thoughts, feelings and opinions about life in Great Britain for people of African and Caribbean descent. Your hair can say so much about you and can be a powerful outlet for expression.

SECRETS OF THE AFRO COMB
6000 years of art and culture

Six thousand years ago, someone buried a beautifully designed Afro comb. It was  uncovered 100 years ago but lay forgotten in an English museum. Until now. Secrets of the Afro comb traces 6,000 years of world history through a simple, everyday object, the Afro comb. From pre-dynastic ancient Egypt o the iconic ‘Black Fist’ comb of the 1970s, readers come to understand these objects as  status symbols and religious objects as well as tools for grooming natural  African hair. Written to accompany the ground-breaking exhibition, Origins of  the Afro Comb, at the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, Secrets of  the Afro comb takes readers back in time, and across the world in an ideal  introduction to world history from a broad perspective.
