The Calabash Hub promotes community projects in the UK and Ghana
PROJECT OKURASE
The rural village of Okurase is in the West Akyem Municipal in the Eastern Region of Ghana, West Africa. The primary objectives of the project is to build a community infrastructure called the Nkabom Centre. The centre will provide the local villages with training programmes, family support, health care, clean water supply and educational facilities. http://www.projectokurase.org/
BAG OF CEMENT
In Ghana cement (50kg) costs approx from 20/25 Ghana cedis (depending on location) which is equivilant to approx £5, and a vital element towards the construction of the Nkabom Centre. The friends of The Calabash Hub implemented the BAG of CEMENT campaign to raise donations to be used towards the purchase of raw materials. Donation raised £300
SHINE A LIGHT
Friends of The Calabash Hub visited Okurase Junior High school in November 2015. We met boys & girls who enjoy attending school and shared with us their career aspiration for the future. The classrooms where beaming with bright students but met with such obstacles as electricity. In order for connections the Electricity Company of Ghana states it requires £950 for Service Poles, Meter, Wiring, Ceiling Fans and Workmanship. Donations raised by August 17 = £1000
However since raising the finances the cost of electricity installation had risen. But it was a pleasure to see that the main teachers room and 2 classrooms had been supplied with electricity and fans. Therefore further donations received will be transferred to the school towards electricity for 2 further classrooms.
Special thanks to all the contributors for your continuous donations.
DONATIONS can be in the form of one off payment or monthly contributions.
