At the beginning of the year or from 1st April, it is common to create a year planner.
But did you know historically the Ga-Dangme (Ghanaian ethnic group) calendar had 13 months, with each month consisting of 28 days. Unlike most countries of the world which starts in January, the Ga-Dangme calendar begins in September after the Homowo festival.
The 13 month known as Yaka was removed and its number of days distributed to the other calendar months to coincide with most countries of the world.
The Ga-Dangme calendar months are as follows:
SEPTEMBER – Gbo
OCTOBER – Antɔŋ
NOVEMBER – Alemle
DECEMBER – Afuabe
JANUARY – Aharabata
FEBRUARY – Oflɔ
MARCH – Otsokrikri
APRIL – Abɛibe
MAY – Agbiɛnaa
JUNE – Otukwajaŋ
JULY – Maawɛ
AUGUST – Manyawale
