The republic of Ghana which means worrier king is in the centre of the West African coast. The tall land area is 92,100 square miles (238,537) square kilometres. The climate is tropical, but temperatures vary with season and elevation. Gifted with natural resources,  agriculture and livestock, cocoa production and marketing, forestry, logging and fishing. Other economic activity is the mineral resources, industry and services. The main exports being gold, timber, cocoa, diamond, bauxite and manganese.

 

The Flag.  RED – represents the blood of those who died in the country’s struggle for independence.    GOLD represents the mineral wealth of the country. GREEN –  symbolises the country’s rich forest. THE BLACK STAR stands for the lode star of African freedom.

 

Independence – On March 6th 1957 Gold Coast became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from British colony led by President Kwame Nkrumah. Ghana is divided into ten regions, each possessing a unique culture and history.

 

 

Festivals
There are many festivals celebrated by towns and villages throughout the country, including Senya Beraku’s Akomase festival, which is a celebration of the harvest and autumnal plenty. Further Ghanaian festivals include the Kumasi people’s Akwesidae festival, Elmina’s Bakatue, Fetu Afahye on the Cape Coast and Homowo as celebrated by the Accra people.
