Ghana Independence –  March 6th, 1957

I spent the day in Koforidua which is the capital of the Eastern Region, where the national 2024 Independence Day Ghana @67 celebrations took place.
Theme: ‘Our Democracy Our Pride‘.

Early in the morning, I was lucky to board one of the 2 buses put on by the GTA accompanied by friends. The journey took about 1hr 30min.

We made our way to the Youth Resource Centre which was packed with spectators, marchers, performers.

It was great to see so many youth participate.

The weather was sooo hot, we even entered a car just to get some a/c. Instead of waiting for the president to arrive, so that the marches could start, we decided to leave the stadium and made our way to a local spot playing high life music.

We were invited by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to attend lunch at Okyere Darko residence. The food was a very large buffet with selections of Ghanaian delights – delicious.

At the premises were National Football League (NFL) players from the USA. I had the pleasure to meet Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. Jeremiah is of Ghanaian heritage, an American football linebacker for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. He wears with pride African attire to NFL games to represent his Ghanaian roots and culture.

Bless Sister E
