The objectives are to provide skills training and formal education to vulnerable children, women, and to connect orphaned children with families that have the capacity to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of a child. This will allow the children to grow healthfully into strong and independent adults.
The Nkabom Centre
As part of Okurase will be The Nkabom Centre which is an NGO started by director and master drummer Samuel Yeboah aka ‘Powerful’ in 2000. Nkabom’s mission is uniting artistic talent to share skills and give training to children creating environmental/health awareness and education through performing arts, and building a platform for talent development in the arts.
The Nkobom centre is being designed to consist of 16 buildings: an Administration Building, Accommodation Buildings, Workshops, School, Dinning, Indoor Recreation, Way Forward Homes, Recording Studio. The centre is being built by local labor by the people from the village of Okurase who wish to make a better life for their children and people in their village and to leave a legacy.
Friends of The Calabash Hub
As part of the Ghanaian tour friends of The Calabash Hub visit Okurase village to see the Centre site, village children and community elders. We also sponsor children with art and school supplies, as well as take part in drumming and dancing workshop.
